چکیده

We report the discovery of a quaternary ammonium surface additive for CO2 reduction on Ag surfaces that changes Faradaic efficiency CO from 25% foil to 97%, while increasing current density production by factor 9 0.14 1.21 mA/cm2 and reducing H2 440 0.44 0.001 mA/cm2. Using ReaxFF reactive molecular dynamics, we find with highest selectivity, dihexadecyldimethylammonium bromide, promotes substantial population near along sufficient H2O activate CO2. While critical number water molecules is required in CO, trend selectivity strongly correlates availability molecules. demonstrate ordering cationic modifiers plays significant role around active site, thus determining reaction selectivity. The dramatic improvement addition simple suggests an additional strategy electrocatalysis.

Approaching the low-temperature limit in nucleation and two-dimensional growth of fcc (100) metal films Ag/Ag(100)

We analyze the formation of two-dimensional Ag islands following deposition of about 0.1 ML of Ag on Ag(100) over a temperature regime ranging from classical nucleation and growth behavior to almost immobile adatoms, from 300 to 125 K. Particular emphasis is placed on the post-deposition dynamics at the lower end of the temperature range, where the saturation island density is not reached at th...

The Effect of Cu Impurity on the CO-dissociation Mechanism on the Fe (100) Surface: A Full Potential DFT Study

In this study, the theoretical calculations of CO dissociation were carried out on Cu-Fe alloy surface by a full-potential method, which made more accurate results especially on the prediction of adsorption energies. This process may be governed by either a direct route or a H-assisted via HCO and COH intermediates pathways. In comparison to the pure surface Fe (100), the presence of Cu atom en...

Reaction Mechanisms for the Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 to CO and Formate on the Cu(100) Surface at 298K from Quantum Mechanics Free Energy Calculations with Explicit Water.

Copper is the only elemental metal that reduces a significant fraction of CO2 to hydrocarbons and alcohols, but the atomistic reaction mechanism that controls the product distributions are not known because it has not been possible to detect the reaction intermediates on the electrode surface experimentally, or carry out Quantum Mechanics (QM) calculations with a realistic description of the el...

INFLUENCE OF THE ELECTROCHEMICAL POTENTIAL ON ENERGY LANDSCAPES NEAR STEP AND ISLAND EDGES: Ag(100) and Ag(111)

The electrochemical cell offers the promise of enabling controlled alteration of the morphology and islanding phenomena on metallic surfaces. Different diffusion processes near step and island edges are known to profoundly affect the growth mode, island sizes, island shapes and step morphology. Using the surface-embedded-atom-model (SEAM) modified for the electrolytic environment, we calculate ...

Magnetic properties of Co/Ag/Co films grown on Ag(100) nanometer-scale islands

Self-assembled Ag(100) islands on Si(100) substrate were fabricated by using the molecular beam epitaxy technique. Co/Ag/Co films were then grown onto Ag films at 100 °C. We have experimentally demonstrated that the magnetic behavior of Co/Ag/Co films is strongly dependent on the thickness and morphology of the Ag(100) islands that serve as a buffer layer. The buffer layer designed to reduce th...
